FLORENCE - A popular part of the W.C. Handy Music Festival that has been missing in recent years makes its return Thursday night.
A downtown block party will be 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the 100 block of Court Street, festival Chairwoman Tori Bailey said.
"We've had a lot of requests over the years for street parties," Bailey said. "We're hoping that this kicks off a whole new era of street parties for the Handy festival."
The event features the Eric Kirkman Combo from 6-7 p.m. and Christine Ohlman and the Decoys from 7:30-9 p.m.
The stage will be outside FirstBank, which sponsors the event along with Downtown Florence Alliance. DFA Executive Director Stephanie Vess, who is the event coordinator, said tables and chairs will be provided but still recommends bringing lawn chairs in the event there is not enough available.
She said police will start putting up barricades at 1 p.m. Thursday to prepare the stage.
Those participating can go to restaurants and return to the event with food and drinks, including adult beverages.
