Judge revokes bond for Tuscumbia murder suspect

February 21, 2023

TUSCUMBIA — Bond has been revoked for a man accused of murder and abuse of a corpse after authorities said he tried to escape from jail.
Marlan Odell Phillips, 32, is charged with murder death of Jennifer Parrish, whose body was found by a relative on Aug. 11 at 112 Monroe Drive, where Phillips and Parrish had been staying, authorities said.
Phillips had been in the Cullman County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond but Cullman County authorities said he attempted to escape. He left his cell but authorities found him before he left the detention center.
Colbert County Circuit Court Judge Kyle Brown today ordered him to be held without bond and set his trial for June 6.
Phillips pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect in the case.
Court documents indicate that Parrish suffered multiple stab wounds to her back, hands, chest and face.
