Man convicted in Colbert murder is up for parole
MONTGOMERY — A man serving a 25-year sentence for a Colbert County murder is up for parole this week, authorities said.
Owen Laine Rea will have parole considered Tuesday by the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles, said Matthew Estes, communications director for the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.
Rea has served nearly 24 years of his sentence for the murder of Steven Gooch, according to court records. He beat Gooch seven or eight times in the head with a blunt instrument, according to records.
In addition, Rea served a concurrent 5-year sentence for a Colbert County conviction of enticing a child for immoral purposes, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.
