Murderer to remain in jail over murder of Deshler coach.
Jermey Leshun Williams, 35, will continue to serve his life sentence after his appeal was denied by the Alabama Supreme Court.
Williams asked that his conviction for the murder be dropped and thrown out. He claimed that he was innocent and had an ineffective counsel during his trial. Before the denial with the Supreme Court, the lower court system denied his appeal.
Willams is serving his life sentence for the murder of Brioni Rutland. Williams stabbed Rutland more than 70 times and shot him in the head before he dumped his body into the Tennessee River. The murder arose from a gambling dispute. The intital charge was capital murder but was later dropped to a leser charge of intentional murder by a jury. He was convicted in 2016 for the murder that occurred back in 2013.
Before his murder, Rutland was a coach at Deshler High School during the 2013 campaign.
Williams will continue to serve his sentence at Limestone Correctional Facility.
